Limb over water
My focus on reflections is nothing new, although it has occupied my attention considerably more in the past year or so. There are two trees I often walk past that have limbs that grow out from the tree and over water - in one case Jamaica Pond and in the other, Ward’s Pond.
Often, when I’m shooting, I hone in on the reflection of the limb in the water. For one thing, it interesting, even pretty; for another, it captures the visual confusion - what is up, what is down? - that I so enjoy. It’s a highlight of this work for me.
It occurred to me as I was out shooting, circling Ward’s Pond (no easy task with the construction going on there), that it might be interesting to shoot the limb without the emphasis on the reflection. It seemed only fair to give equal time to the causer of the reflections!
So here it is, an unassuming tree branch hanging over the water. That and the blessing of fall’s colors, creates a lovely composition.
