Leaves
We’re not that deep into October but it seems obvious that autumn has begun. The air is chillier, the days are shorter; I get to wear long-sleeved shirts and shoes with socks. A pleasant change.
And of course the garden is beginning to show some of the seasonal changes. Walking around the community garden, I notice that some of the cultivated plants are showing the effects of the colder air. What must be a shocking change, chlorophyll is in retreat. I don’t know the science of it but it allows for some interesting images. I love the subtle shift from green to yellow in this image.
I should correct my statement in my last post about dry seasons meaning poor color in the foliage. One considerably more knowledgeable than I says that a dry year has led to great color. I stand corrected - and also looking forward to what is to come in the way of color her in Boston!
