Bones
Driftwood, I suppose it’s called. Found on the beach with evidence of the impact of waves and sand, this was once a tree, I’m guessing. To me, at this moment, it looks like nothing so much as the skeleton of some strange beast.
But clearly these are not bones, at least not bones of any animal I’ve known of. It’s the carcass of a tree that has been pulled apart in the sea. It has been exposed for us to notice, especially the aquas and the blues, not colors I usually associate with wood (or bones for that matter).
It feels like some difficult riddle, figuring out how this got from what it was to what it is. For myself, the meaning comes from just looking at it, addressing the questions that come up, not finding any answers but enriched by the inquiry.
