I walked around Jamaica Pond yesterday, in the rain, by the way, and it was delightful. I took a detour to visit the two ancient sycamores on Pinebank Promontory. The last time I’d seen them was in late spring. Sycamores generally leaf out late in the season, With these two, I worry that they’re dying, that they’ll never leaf out. That’s just my distress - I return after a while to find them in full leaf-array.

It was a comfort to see these two trees, their striking sections of white bark somewhat hidden by the multi-shaded green leaves. These old trees, I wonder what they’ve lived through. I imagine they have a different perspective on life and time.
