Mist before dawn

Marc GoldringComment

Most mornings I walk around Peters Hill in the Arboretum. It’s a comfortable, if a bit uphill, walk of about 2 miles. One of the many things that makes the Arb special is that there are no lights, except what you can see through the leaf-less trees. So it’s dark. And since I have been taking my walk before the sun rises, that means it’s very dark.

Yesterday the mist was thick. The air was still so the trees were motionless. The mist seemed to settle in amongst the trees and sounds were muffled. I didn’t encounter anyone while I walked, not even a dog-walker. It was quiet and empty of humans.

Extraordinary that I can live in the middle of a city and yet have this natural space, so close. It’s a blessing!
