Roots

If you look under its canopy of branches of the Weeping Katsura in the Shrub and Vine Garden, you can see, through its several trunks, to its roots. I’m struggling to find a metaphor here but I suspect there really isn’t one. Perhaps this is an image without an immediate or coherent story attached to it.

So what is left? Just the image and the slightly blue-ish hue of the roots, their graceful if gnarly surface that seems to buck and flow as a tiny mountain range. The brown, cone-like object in the upper left adds a lovely counterpoint of both color and texture.

There’s no overarching message here, no attempt to connect this image, this tree, to our lives. Just something fun to look at for a moment.
