Roots and water

Marc GoldringComment

I’m constantly looking at what’s in the water by the edge of the Pond. The play of wind and light and water on whatever debris is there makes for a powerful source of things to look at.

There is a willow tree at the edge of Jamaica Pond and its roots, at least some of its roots, grow in the part of the Pond that is sometimes dry and sometimes under water. I don’t understand how trees work so this network of roots is just a visual pleasure.

Yet the interplay of roots and leaves and water forms a striking image. The colors have been altered and reflect a bit of fall’s palette, with perhaps more red than we’ve seen this season.

I find this image most striking when I let go of seeing the content and simply see the colors and textures. I often do this with my work. Try it, it’s fun!
