Trees (and people)

I’m becoming a bit easier about including people in my shots. I think I’ve resisted it because I wanted the scenes to seem isolated, bare of human impact. Well, that’s just a bit silly. Most of the landscapes I shoot are urban and have more than anything been formed by human intervention. Yes, they are quiet, but that doesn’t require an absence of people!

And also, people are very helpful in establishing scale, as in this shot! Maybe you’d know these are big trees without seeing those folks walking in the distance. This is by Ward’s Pond. I like seeing these tiny little humans dwarfed by these trees. So there’s another advantage to including people - the ability to note how small we individually are compared to other elements of the environment.
