Juxtaposition
Walking along Stony Beach in Woods Hole, I came across these old concrete steps in among the beach roses. Why? Go figure…
As I recall, these steps had been used to get to the shower toward the parking lot end of the beach and they were replaced. Clearly, there was no definitive answer to the question of what to do with the old steps. So there they sit, going nowhere, only serving as a contrast to the surrounding plants.
When I first saw the steps, it felt like a metaphor - tilted steps going into a forest of rose bushes. I took the shot and didn’t think any further about it. When I processed the image, I liked the contrast a great deal but wasn’t so sure about pushing the metaphor. So I’m officially letting go of it - it’s just some old steps stuck in with a bunch of roses.
End of story!
