Toward the back of the community garden, there is a fence that marks the boundary of the garden. There is a grape vine, quite well established and growing on the chain-link fence.

The vine has grown around the fence in several places. Considering that there was no alternative if growth were part of the plan, that’s a logical, if difficult, solution. It says something to me about tenacity and about living with what you’re given.

The trunk supports the entire length of the vine, some twenty or more feet. From this trunk grow sinewy but hard branches, many of which engulf the fence. It’s a dance that moves so slowly as to be invisible. And the vine keeps going, overcoming obstacles over the course of years. Impressive.
