When I saw this scene and brought the camera to my eye, I was thinking “reflection” which, as you probably know, is a common theme for me, one that I’ve not been visiting quite as much lately. Probably because I’m walking around Peters Hill in the Arb rather than Jamaica Pond.

But when I looked at this shot in Lightroom, I realized that while there were some reflections, that wasn’t the dominant element in the image. It was the contrast between the various textures and the interplay of greens and reds. And yellows… And how they play in layers, bouncing off one another.

I do try when I shoot to capture what has caught my eye, to transform what is in front of me into something I can make into a two-dimensional image. But sometimes, maybe when I’m tired, I shoot without thought or intention. Honestly, usually those shots don’t work. But shooting digitally means there’s no additional cost for that one shot, and sometimes it nets me a wonderful image. Like this one!
