Contrast
The contrast is striking, this barren limb in a sea of green. Perhaps it’s my perspective as a human, but I’m really glad that I’m alive. I don’t think about it very often but now that it has my attention, it’s worth noting. And celebrating. Especially during this time when illness, death, and other forms of limitation have been so commonplace.
I love being alive, even when I’m not walking among ancient green beings or listening to birds. And truth be told, I even love being alive when I’m having a bad day. There’s something about breathing in and out, slowly or quickly, and especially with attention, that can focus me on the blessings of life. This is a stance I must constantly cultivate.
Of course, it’s the contrast that brings this up for me: the limb is stark when seen next to the living green leaves. So to celebrate the beauty and joy of life, I need to notice and honor the dying - people, relationships, trees. Another stance to cultivate!
