Contrast

I walk past this tree it most mornings as I explore the Arboretum. And each day opens me to a new view of it. The light and dark, the contrast changes. It’s partly the texture and density of the bark. But it’s also how damp it’s been. The dark areas of the trunk are damp while the lighter areas are dry.

I’ve spent much of the past few years shooting reflections and such in water. Now I’m learning what to look at when I’m shooting trees. It’s much more subtle exercise and light is really important. (OK, true, it always is, but in the woods, it seems challenging to me to find good light.)

See this images as a study. I’m not completely satisfied with it but it work as one of a series of shots highlighting the contrast. We’ll see. Stay tuned!
