Obscure

Marc GoldringComment

My morning walk starts and finishes in darkness, unless I somehow get outside a bit later than usual. That was the case a few mornings ago; only by a few minutes but it seems to have made a difference. I had assumed that more light would make objects more clear and maybe it did for some.

But not these ginkgoes, at least not through the camera.

It reminded me how many assumptions my eyes and brain are making about what I’m looking at, what I’m seeing. Tree trunks disappear; branches seem to spring from nowhere. Some part of my brain is filling in the blanks.

This image is imprecise in much the way my eyes were in the almost-dark. I love the opportunity it provides to play with color and shape as almost-revealed before sunrise. It makes me guess, which means I’m looking more carefully. Always a good thing!
