Sometimes things look like what they are; sometimes they don’t. I suppose it’s reasonably clear that this is an image of part of a tree. And yet, when I came upon the image and looked at it quickly but with attention, suddenly it might be a dimensional contour map of some unfamiliar area, or a dry stream bed.

Or perhaps not. What seems most important is to expand my sight fluidly, not fixed to some standard of presumed knowledge, and to allow whatever comes to mind to audition.

Being literal is less important to me than being open to the juxtapositions the universe and my mind put in front of me.
