Morning snow

Marc GoldringComment

I’m always struck by the silence of snow. Quiet is hard to come by in the city, with all the requirements of urban living. Yet snow seems to bring quiet along with it, at least in the beginning, while it’s still falling.

This morning the snow fell in the Arb with the surprising companion of intermittent gusts of wind. At least, they surprised me! Those gusts tend to make me hunch over, not the expansive, calm posture that I aim for on my walks.

The trees, on the other hand, seemed calm and quiet, as ever. They seem to be ready for whatever comes - snow, wind, people, no people, whatever. For myself, I was able to slow down as I looked through the viewfinder, aiming to capture a feeling as much as a scene of trees.

Not sure I can manifest the degree of equanimity I sense from trees. But it’s worth a try.
