There is so much going on in this small sample of bark, such a history of growth, far beyond what I can understand or even imagine.

Sometimes I’m captured by the why of things but in this care, for some reason I’m comfortable just letting it be, just looking and appreciating the complexity of the life decisions that led this particular tree to this particular configuration.

I worked a long time on this image. I worked to enhance the texture that was there. There was something rough about it, something that suggests mountains. Seeing the large in the small, that’s precious.

As I’ve said before, I see these trees with artist-eyes. Some images end up far from where they started. To me, that’s the adventure!
