Small differences

Small differences

After a night of rain and wind, the fallen leaves and occasional dropped branches mark the passage of a storm. But there’s more to it, at least if you look closely. The trunks of many trees display the track of the rain as it was blown through the air.

The difference in color and texture between the dry and wet sections of bark is striking. This image already feels like map of some unknown terrain. That contributes to my feeling of confusion and a bit of mystery.

When I look at my art lately, I’ve come to accept feelings of confusion. What is not at all comfortable in my daily life is fine when I’m making art. In an odd way, it’s actually helpful to not be sure what I’m looking at. It helps open my eyes to perspectives and interpretations I might not otherwise notice.

So - another reason to be grateful for the rain!
