Ambiguous

Ambiguous

There’s a sense of dimensionality in this image, a sense (to my eyes at least) that I am looking down on a scene. Yes, it dissipates after a while – as I often say, the more you look, the more you see, the more clearly you see. What remains is an abstraction with more questions than answers.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more comfortable with mystery, with not knowing – or needing to know – the “answer,” in this case, what I’m looking at. Since I made this image, presumably I know what it’s of. But with the distance of a few days, I’m less certain of my recollection..

Making art, I often find myself surrounded by questions and I think my best work comes when I sit without the need for instant answers. And here I am, without answers. Check back in a month or so, maybe I’ll know more then!
