Color Shift
Another one of my favorites on the Peters Hill side of the Arboretum, this Chinese Sumac has been delighting me with its subtle daily shift of color from green to yellow and now landing on orange. It changes virtually every day - a photo I took two days before this one was dominated by yellow. I was planning to use that one until I made this one this morning. Such a transition in just two days!
These are the sorts of changes that autumn brings. That’s why I dig out the gloves and hat and sweaters so that I can be ready for whatever the day delivers. There’s a difference here of consciousness for sure, but the impulses are similar if not the same.
This is the level of change that I enjoy. I love seeing this new yet familiar landscape, not least because I know its parameters. I can be surprised while at the same time know generally what to expect. Perhaps there are more adventurous stances to take in life but I enjoy the mix of change and familiarity that I feel often at this time of year.
