Gingko again

Gingko again

OK, I’ll own that turning the clocks back and forth twice a year makes exactly no sense to me. Yet I must admit to a pleasant surprise this recent time around. Given the time of year, my morning walks have started and ended in the dark. So, when I went for Sunday morning’s walk, I could see the landscape rather than dark silhouettes against a darker background. Somehow it was a surprise.

I found that I had missed the gradual de-leafing of the gingkoes I enjoyed in other years, a small disappointment when weighed against the amazing carpet of color that lay before me. The uniformity and vibrancy of gingko yellow is in contrast to the subtle, quiet greens of summer.

There’s a lot of saying goodbye at this time of year. And yet I was pleased to be able to see this gingko carpet again. It reminds me of other autumns on Peters Hill and that continuity is a comfort. Some things seem to continue even in the face of uncertainty. So perhaps messing with the clocks served me after all.
