Sycamore
Way back in February - in the “before” time - I wrote about my interest in working on a portfolio of images of trees. I’ve been toying with that thought ever since and haven’t gotten clear yet what that body of images would look like. Here’s one shot, one of my favorite trees, that comes close to what I want to capture. It’s not a literal image of the tree, nor is it so abstract that we don’t know what we’re looking at. As one person said, the image invites you to climb up into the tree, such an abundance of branches.
I’m struggling to avoid doing “portraits” of trees. I want to see something that gives a unique perspective, something of mystery, rather than simply showing the tree in its context. Sometimes it will be abstract; sometimes it will seem more literal…
So I’m bumping around with this idea and I must say it’s coming slowly, slower than I’d like. I’m hoping I have the perseverance to keep looking and seeing what is to be seen. Perhaps you can share your reaction in the comments below. All ideas welcome!!
