Bark

I always seem to gravitate toward close-in looks at things. There’s something about the ambiguity of scale that creates mystery, at least for my eyes. So I’m not surprised to find myself looking at the bark of a tree at quite close range. The texture attracts me and while I knew what I was looking at when I shot it, as I processed it, wonder grew - the swirls and curves would look like a landscape were it not for the verticality.

I must return to this tree, take another look a bit further out so that I can better understand what I’m’ looking at here. I suppose it doesn’t matter, ultimately - why it has grown the way it has is of secondary interest, compared to its reality. But it’s always good to take a second look.
