Walking

Marc GoldringComment

My early morning walks around Peters Hill are bracing. They invite me to put attention on my surroundings, even though sunrise is often still an hour away. It’s a different kind of observing, one that has its limitations, notwithstanding the enjoyment of being the first footsteps on a lightly-snowy morning such as today.

All of which is to explain that I came back to the Arb during daylight with the camera. My focus for quite a while has been on trees, in particular on the bark, looking at trees skin deep. So much history reflected there, worth an extended look.

This image is of a red cedar. One of the pleasures of the Arb is that almost every tree and shrub has a tag with details of what it is (sometimes even in English!), when it was planted, and where it came from - an elaborate “Hello, my name is” tag. It makes for a much more personal experience.

So here’s red cedar. Feel free to introduce yourself!!
