Green

Of course I know it’s summer, it’s the middle of July and I’ve been watching it unfold for quite some time.

And yet, somehow, as I walked around Scarboro Pond, it hit me, it’s not just summer, it’s mid-summer, the moment when every growing thing approaches the high point of its growth, when woods and fields are lush with green growth, when whatever plans we’ve made for these warm months are brought to fruition. How did we get here when the trees were just budding yesterday?

It does move quickly and sometimes I want it to go slower.  That’s clearly more to do with me than with the natural world. So all I can do when these thoughts swamp me is to slow myself down, notice the light, the colors, the textures – walk and look and feel as much of what’s around me with intention and grace. There’s no rush, just life asserting itself.
